3rd Quarter Reflection 3/13/15

Now that it is almost 4th quarter, I feel that I know a lot more than I did in the beginning of the year. I learned more things, and now I have a bigger vocabulary. I have read more books, and now I know how to edit my writing. There are also a lot more things that I've learned, but these are the things that stood out this quarter.

In the book series that I'm currently reading (A Series of Unfortunate Events), there are a lot of vocabulary words in there. The author; Lemony Snicket constantly stops the story and talks to the readers. Then, he explains what words mean. One example of this was, "Sanctuary... is a word which here means a small, safe place in a troubling world. Like an oasis in a cast desert or an island in a stormy sea." Anyways, there was a lot of these throughout the series and they helped me to expand my vocabulary as well as the weekly words.

I also have read a lot more books for the 40 book challenge. The 40 book challenge is where we have to read 40 books, but not just any. We have to read a variety of genres, so that makes it more challenging. So far, I am on book 19, so I need 21 more books.

The one thing that I didn't really know how to do was to edit my writing. Now I know to go step by step. I used to just go all over and correct the grammar. The important thing that I have learned was to have a good topic sentence, grammar, diction, etc. In conclusion, I think that I have learned a lot over the three quarters of the school year.
